Description

Edit: spent a few minutes doing the camo I wanted to try for the Frontranger.

(Mostly) finished set of drawings for grad portfolio.

This was originally conceived as a sample page out of a potential "source book" for Epicho; you can see the full two page spread here, and the main text is transcribed below.

Of the military forces that operate in Mhad Su Tarre under the flags of human nations, there are five which are most prevalent. The Koshyan Provincial Guards of Anchortop, the Rossentian Foreign Legion, the Caluran Confederate Municipal Army, the Frontrange Commonwealth Mountaineers, and the Baloran Expeditionarre.

The Koshyan Provincial Guards are a division of the Koshyan army. They comprise of three brigades; one motor rifle brigade, one motor cavalry brigade, and a heavy Kostralak brigade. The force is roughly sixteen thousand strong including support personnel, and is tasked primarily with defending the borders of Anchortop. As the province of Anchortop is currently on good relations with the Mhadyon Coalition, the KPG has on occasion provided direct aid in defense of Mhadyon borders as well. The Koshyan Kostralak (pictured above) is a heavy infantry unit who fights on and holds front lines in battle. They are issued similar equipment and arms as the regular Koshyan Stralak, in addition to wearing a full set of ballistic armor. While heavy, it offers superior coverage and protection compared to ordinary flak and ballistic vests. It uses a mix of flexible pads and plates to allow for adequate—though still restricted—movement. Kostralaks are most effective in short-range or close-quarters battles, preferring to avoid prone positions while in combat due to their armor.

The Rossentian Foreign Legion was historically an expeditionary force deployed in the colonial era to protect the Rossentian Empire's colony of Tundria, one of the three colonies that originally laid claim to the land of Calur. During the Caluran civil war, the RFL conspired with the government of Rokan and helped eliminate the opposing Baloran colony of Seastride, and has since established itself alongside the Caluran Confederate Municipal Gendarmerie as the de facto ruling powers of the Caluran Confederacy. RFL troops in Calur wear a burnt orange strip of cloth on their helmets and along their shoulders, signifying their integration with the Confederacy.

The RFL itself is organized similarly to the Rossentian Imperial Army, with a rigid hierarchy and strict discipline. The RFL is currently comprised of three legions of fifteen thousand men each, with an auxiliary legion that directly oversees protection of the Caluran capital of Rokanberg. In war the RFL is just as brutal and unforgiving as the RIA, even without the sheer numbers the RIA can field. Prisoners are taken as slaves and pressed into servitude under the Legion, and Rossentians are not sparing in their punishment of those who struggle against them.

The CCMG is a native human military, and is mostly made up of fresh young recruits and veterans of the Caluran civil war, and though a regular army it is not organized into a rigid overall structure. Each municipal zone manages their own divisions of troops, depending on how many fighting men each can muster. Together, the municipal divisions of the CCMG are organized and directed by the Caluran Confederate Government. In total, there are approximately nine municipal divisions ranging from between five to twenty thousand troops apiece. The Confederate government also fields its own corps unbound by the municipalities, consisting of the RFL auxiliary legion and the Caluran Fireguard—two divisions of elite infantry.

The Frontrange Commonwealth Mountaineers are the primary armed forces of Frontrange, currently made up of six divisions of mountain grenadiers, four cavalry divisions, and one armored division. Frontrange grenadiers are extremely well-trained and drilled heavy mountain infantry who wear thick ballistic vests. Mountain grenadiers are equipped with M500E2 automatic rifles and often have access to infrared night vision optics. They are considered by many to be some of the most effective fighters on the continent, training exhaustively in the high-altitude mountain landscape of their home country.

The nation of Southcape, being unusually integrated with the Mhadyon nation of Cuuszetorig and in general quite neutral, doesn't currently field a substantially large active military, instead relying on the Southcape National Guard & Police, as well as three divisions of the Baloran Expeditionarre Army. Balor has a vested interest in Southcape's stability as a nation, as Balor moves towards becoming a global trade empire and shedding off its old skin of military conquest after the decimating Baloran civil war that left the empire divided.

Baloran military doctrine favors simplicity, practicality, and surgical application of power. The standard Baloran infantry unit—the Arbalestier—embodies these ideals; using lightweight kits and battle rifles. A typical Arbalestier has seen combat in a handful of different countries, and their fighting prowess is legendary.
